“Pro Photo has and continues to be one of my most valued assets in my 24 year career as a professional photographer based in the DC area. I can’t imagine how I could have made it this far as a commercial shooter without Dick and Sebouh’s help and advice…I can’t even count the number of times they have repaired or modified various cameras, lighting gear, and other photo hardware for me…many times on a super-rush basis due to the pressing needs of an assignment. I feel spoiled having talented, creative technicians I can actually talk to and come up with ways to make equipment truly right for the job. Of course they also advise me on new equipment decisions. I purchase my equipment from them because I know I have a trusted source that will be able to fix any problems I might encounter as I use the gear…and, as they know, I don’t hold back on using the gear.
My favorite Pro Photo story was back in 1990, so long ago, when I was just a few years into my career. At the time I was doing a lot of documentary photography in Texas and Louisiana related to people living near petro-chemical factories and toxic industrial pollution. Some of that work included shooting protests by environmental activists and local residents drawing attention to the issue. I was shooting “The Second Great Louisiana Toxics March,” when I fell on a concrete driveway chasing action of police arresting protesters near a factory…my Nikon FM2 camera and 180mm lens smashed to the ground. With my bloody knees, I realized my lens was jammed into the camera and didn’t work. I had another camera but was pretty bummed about the fate of the gear. Those were the days before cell phones and the next day I made a pay phone call to Dick at Pro Photo…I was planning to be in Louisiana another couple of weeks…I explained what happened to the gear, I’m sure in a rather disturbed manner, to Dick. He calmly told me: “Sam send the camera and lens…I will check the lens and see what the condition is…I will take apart the camera…and if I see that I can successfully put it back together, then I will put it back together….if not, I won’t put it back together.” So I called him a few days after he got my package and he said the lens had a dent in the front ring but still worked fine and was usable (I was quite relieved as that was more expensive than the camera)…then he said, “Sam, I will not be putting the camera back together.” There was something about that honesty and straight up report that just made me love having Pro Photo on my side…a part of my team…a confidant and sage advisor. By the way, though you might catch me running with a camera in my hand, I have never fallen or dropped a camera since then!”

“Pro Photo is the only place in Washington, D.C. to buy cameras, get them fixed, or just drop by for an excellent espresso! I’ve worked with them for over 30 years, and wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

Dick, Sebouh and Sally have made Pro Photo a refuge in the age of “Big Box” stores and Pro Photo has been my go-to source for over 20 years. Dick and Sebouh are masters at repair and have done many, many custom modifications for me under deadline pressure. Unlike “Big Box” salespeople, they KNOW all the equipment from the latest digital to the oldest field cameras and HOW IT WORKS- (I’ve seen Dick spend most of an afternoon with a customer helping to determine the perfect outfit).

Pro Photo is the only place to go in DC for rock-solid repairs. Dick and Sebouth know how to fix my older Leicas and they believe in honest one-to-one customer service. I’ve known Dick and Sebouh since the National Camera days. If you need it fixed right, Dick and crew are the guys to go to in DC.

Dick, Sebouh and Sally have always been there for me when I needed their expertise in a hurry. Their reliability and workmanship have been an immeasurable help to me.
